BLACKHALL

Site Code: 12.050

Wind Direction: NE

Location: NZ 460403

Access: There are several alternatives. The commonest area is shown on the map. Turn off the A1086 at Blackhall Colliery, drive down Tenth Street and through the industrial estate. Carry along the footpath about 200m.

Height: 120ft maximum, 60ft at take off.

Length: 200m between gaps, but possible to fly the cliffs 5 miles from NZ 443460 to NZ 497360.

Description: Stretch of semi derelict coastline with earth banks rather than cliffs. Gives safe, interesting flying.

Suitability: Subject to conditions, all levels of flier. A useful beginner's slope and a challenge to soaring flight.

Telephone: In Blackhall village.

SITE RULES:
There are no specific rules relating to this site. Just remember to follow the country code, fly sensibly and keep a look out for members of the public.

Take-off: Is from a steep edge. Choose a section facing into wind.

Landings: Bottom: There is always some beach except in very high tides, but is difficult to drive down to the beach so carrying up the footpath is best.

Top: In front of the fence requires a crosswind approach and can be turbulent due to ROTOR. Behind the fence is better if the field is not in crop. Make your  mind up early so as not to hit the fence!

Comments: Flying at nearby Easington may be better if the wind is crossed from the east. There is a coastguard lookout at Blackhall Rocks 863626 which is not permanently manned.
