SKINNINGROVE Site Code: 12.062 Direction: NNE to ENE Location: NZ 715205 Access: Drive through Carlin How, turn left after the steelworks and follow the road. Park at the end of this road and carry the glider along the path 400yds to the edge. Height: Approx. 200ft Length: Approx 1 mile, giving access to 10 miles of soar-able cliffs and dunes. Description: Sheer sea cliffs with steeply sloping grass banks on either side. Gives access to longer cliffs to the north and south. Suitability: All pilots who can soar. Like Saltburn this is an excellent coastal site. Telephone: Carlin How. SITE RULES: Take-off: Take offs from the sheer cliff face have been used most frequently from this site, however this is not recommended unless the pilot is experienced and the winds are light. The grassy banks on either side have been used with some success recently for a safer take off. Landings: Top: Mainly on derelict land behind the grass bank, well back to avoid ROTOR which has been experienced with the wind strong and crossed. Comments: A useful site if the wind is too crossed for Saltburn. |
