Robin Hood's Bay

ROBIN HOOD'S BAY

Site Code: 11.061

Direction: N TO ESE

Location: SE 959063 to SE 979024

Access: Off A171 onto B1447 at High Hawsker. Bear left when entering Robin Hood's bay and park in the side streets behind the houses on the SE facing cliff top. Walk along the public footpath to a suitable point on the SE face. Consult a map for suitable access to NE face.

Height: 250 - 300 ft SE face reduces to 100ft in the centre of the bowl.

Description: Huge coastal bowl producing flying from SE (sheer rock cliffs) to E and NNE (less severe).

Suitability: CP + 20hrs

Telephone: In Robin Hood's Bay by the car park at the top of the access road down to the beach.

SITE RULES:
There are no specific rules relating to this site. Just remember to follow the country code, fly sensibly and keep a look out for members of the public.

Take-off: The SE facing cliff is now densely overgrown and is not recommended. Take offs can be made from directly in front of the car park in an ESE wind. In the NE direction take offs can be made at any suitable point along the ridge.
It has been brought to our attention that a fence has been erected along the cliff path which has made take off now impossible.

Landings: Top: Top landing is impossible in SE winds.
Bottom: Bottom landings are possible only at low tide. Recovery is possible by driving down to the beach.

Comments: Not recently flown. ESE direction is fairly short so flying is limited. The NE ridge has a difficult access but is long and permits flying a greater stretch of coast to the south.
